Access to Justice

The CBA strives to improve and promote access to justice for the poor and middle class in Canada.

CBA-Nova Scotia supports the following program offered by the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal:

Nova Scotia Court of Appeal Judicial Mediation Program

This program helps litigants avoid costly and time-consuming courtroom hearings. It is voluntary and is available to those who have launched an appeal in a civil or family dispute (not available in criminal appeals). Litigants have the opportunity to resolve their differences themselves under the guidance of a judge.

Role of CBA-Nova Scotia

In implementing this mediation program, the Court of Appeal teamed up with CBA–Nova Scotia. We maintain a list of volunteer lawyers interested in representing self- represented litigants on a pro bono basis during the mediation process. Lawyers interested in taking part are asked to contact Tina Tucker, Executive Director of CBA-Nova Scotia.

Find out more about this program by visiting the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal Judicial Mediation Program website.
